Implement 98G and SO4 Equations into Your VRT System

Variable rate technology (VRT) allows growers to apply products at the right rate, right place, right time, and with the right source – the 4 R’s. Following the 4 R’s minimizes impact on the environment and maximizes a grower’s return on investment. We have worked for the past five years to develop, test, and refine product specific equations for 98G and SO4 to allow incorporation into VRT systems. 

Given the wide scope of the VRT software industry, we are able to work directly with retailers and/or software companies to make sure our equations are correctly incorporated into their specific VRT system. 

The best way to incorporate our equations into your VRT system is to simply reach out to me and get the conversation started. We will need to know which system you are using and who is responsible for entering equations. Once we gather this info, the process is generally very quick and seamless. We are happy to provide background on how the equations were developed and the equations themselves. We also offer calculators based on these equations that show how the equations provide recommendations prior to incorporation into the VRT system.

We have had tremendous success merging our product equations into customers’ VRT systems, which has helped put our products into consideration when talking with growers about maximizing soil fertility. We look forward to more of you reaching out to get this process started.


Lime Only Works if it Hits the Soil

This Sunday I worked outside, it was a little windy but not as bad as it has been. I was still really surprised to see a local agronomy center out spreading ag lime. 

As you know limestone must be ground fine for it to be effective, but unfortunately most of it doesn't reach the soil.

The old joke is that "at least my neighbor gets something out of it" which is really dumb since I doubt the neighbor brings you a load of grain at harvest.

In reality, 100 mesh particles, which there are a lot of in Gilmore City ag lime, are microscopic. It takes a lot of lime particles to make up these big clouds, it could be 25% or higher of the total volume. These small particles actually drift much farther then the neighbors, or the neighboring county; it's more like the neighboring states! Even if you get ag lime spread with limited drift, it rarely stays there.

Then there is the old saying that ag lime needs to be worked in, here is a guy that put on finely ground lime and is working it in, or should we say de-spreading it.

The last couple of weeks have been extremely windy in this part of the country, I have seen more than one lime pile assist in in the application process this fall.

I really feel sorry for the farmer that thinks because he paid to have his ag lime precision spread that is what he is getting. Unfortunately with ag lime there is no way to effectively and accurately apply it.

With finely ground ag lime you have to put more out just to ensure you get a few hundred pounds per acre where you want it. With coarse ground lime you have to put out tons to make sure you get a few hundred pounds of reactive lime to the soil.

Why not start out with less total product in a form that is effective and doesn't drift? With SuperCal 98G less is best.

True Precision Lime


Today I received the October 2011 issue of CropLife, the magazine of a trade group that represents the developers, manufacturers, formulators and distributors of plant science solutions for agriculture and pest management in the United States. The cover story was a feature on precision services an there was one other article as well as 9 more mentions of precision ag. Why do I bring this up?

With all the focus on precision ag, why are is the lime your spreading from 1960?








You spent good money to have your fields grid sampled, spent some more to have your lime applied by variable rate, so why do you put up with it blowing off the field.

Sure you can get ag lime delivered to your field, but how do you know how much moisture is in it? How much water are you buying? This fall it is likely dry so how much blew out of the truck and off the field before it was spread?

When I worked in retail ag, the number one complaint from farmers was, you always spread my lime on a windy day.

Here is a news flash, it’s always windy in the Midwest, and the floater is driving at 15 MPH, you are going to have drift, PERIOD!

The number 2 complaint was, it didn't seem to do anything. All lime isn't the same, coarse ag lime simply doesn't work, the fines blow away, the only people that benefited from spreading ag lime is the quarry and the guy that hauled it.

This fall switch to a product with 17 years of proven performance, no magnesium, less than 1% moisture, doesn't drift, and actually changes soil pH and delivers results.
